32

Wa laqadis tuhzi'a bi Rusulim min qablika fa amlaitu lillazeena kafaroo summa akhaztuhum fakaifa kaana 'iqaab

32. And surely, the messengers before you were mocked at. Then I gave respite to the disbelievers for a time, then I seized them [90]. Then how was My punishment? (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(32) And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty. (Saheeh International Translation)

Commentary of Surah Ar-Ra'd – Verse 32

And surely, the messengers before you were mocked at. Then I gave respite to the disbelievers for a time, then I seized them [90]. Then how was My punishment? (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

[90] Delayed Seizure is a Form of Punishment

This tells us that to adopt a relaxed attitude toward sins is, in itself, a form of severe punishment.

This also includes the situation where people continue to receive many bounties despite their sins — such bounties are, in reality, poison in the form of sweetmeats.

May Allah Almighty protect us from this.
