Commentary of Verse 43 (Surah An-Nazi’at)

"But what concern do you have to declare it?" [20]

Ignoring the Mocking Question About the Hour [20]

  • Allah tells the Prophet ﷺ that it is not his concern to answer the mocking question about the exact time of the Hour.

  • The Prophet ﷺ was sent to remind people of the Day of Judgment, not to answer every trivial or mocking question.

  • Two points emerge:

    1. Not all questions require answers, especially if they are asked out of jest.

    2. Asking the Prophet ﷺ about something is akin to asking Allah directly, as the response came from Allah, not the Prophet.

Ibn-Kathir

(79:43) What concern do you have to speak about that?

There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

(43) In what [position] are you that you should mention it?[1849]

[1849]- Meaning that Muḥammad (ﷺ) had no knowledge of it, so how could he inform them?
