The summary/theme of the surah al-munafiqun

The theme of Qur'an 63 is to inform believers that hypocrites are absolute liars. It also exhorts believers to be sincere in their faith and provide for their families.

Lesson learned from surah al-munafiqun

  1. No matter how hard you try to convince yourself or others of how you feel, Allah's knows the reality better than anyone.  
  2. If you jump at every call thinking it’s relevant to you, it is a sign of a guilty conscience.  
  3. The hypocrites would regularly do things that would deeply upset the Muslims, yet they couldn’t do much in retaliation given the circumstances. Allah's revealed this surah and many other Ayahs to console the hearts of the believers.  
  4. Only Allah's has total control over the treasures of the heavens and the earth.  
  5. Do not let your wealth and offspring distract you from the remembrance and obedience of Allah's.  
  6. A person who doesn’t give zak'h will see the punishment before he/she passes away, and will desire to be given respite to make amends; a desire that shall not be allowed to be fulfilled.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Verset 1 sur 10

إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ قَالُواْ نَشۡهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ يَشۡهَدُ إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَكَٰذِبُونَ

Izaa jaaa'akal munaafiqoona qaaloo nashhadu innaka la rasoolul laah; wallaahu ya'lamu innaka la rasooluhoo wallaahu yashhadu innal munaafiqeena lakaaziboon
1. Quand les hypocrites viennent te trouver, ils disent : « Nous attestons que tu es le Messager d’Allah. » Mais Allah Sait que tu es Son Messager, et Il atteste que les hypocrites sont des menteurs.

Verset 2 sur 10

ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ جُنَّةٗ فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُمۡ سَآءَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Ittakhazoo aymaanahum junnatan fasaddoo 'an sabeelil laah; innahum saaa'a maa kaanoo ya'maloon
2. Ils ont pris leur serment comme bouclier protecteur, et ont repoussé (les autres) loin du chemin d’Allah. Comme étaient détestables les choses qu’ils faisaient !

Verset 3 sur 10

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ ءَامَنُواْ ثُمَّ كَفَرُواْ فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يَفۡقَهُونَ

Zaalika bi annahum aamanoo summa kafaroo fatubi'a 'alaa quloobihim fahum laa yafqahoon
3. Cela, parce qu’ils ont cru, puis mécru. Leurs cœurs en sont alors scellés, et ils ne comprennent plus rien.

Verset 4 sur 10

۞وَإِذَا رَأَيۡتَهُمۡ تُعۡجِبُكَ أَجۡسَامُهُمۡۖ وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡۖ كَأَنَّهُمۡ خُشُبٞ مُّسَنَّدَةٞۖ يَحۡسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيۡحَةٍ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ هُمُ ٱلۡعَدُوُّ فَٱحۡذَرۡهُمۡۚ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ أَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَكُونَ

Wa izaa ra aytahum tu'jibuka ajsaamuhum wa iny yaqooloo tasma' liqawlihim ka'annahum khushubum musannadah; yahsaboona kulla saihatin 'alaihim; humul 'aduwwu fahzarhum; qaatalahumul laahu annaa yu'fakoon
4. Quand tu les vois, leur apparence physique te plaît, et s’ils parlent tu écoutes (volontiers) ce qu’ils disent. Ils sont tels des poutres appuyées (contre le mur). Ils pensent que le moindre cri les concerne. Ce sont eux l’ennemi. Méfie-toi d’eux ! Qu’Allah les combatte ! Comme ils se détournent (du droit chemin) !

Verset 5 sur 10

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ تَعَالَوۡاْ يَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ لَوَّوۡاْ رُءُوسَهُمۡ وَرَأَيۡتَهُمۡ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ

Wa izaa qeela lahum ta'aalaw yastaghfir lakum rasoolul laahi lawwaw ru'oo sahum wa ra aytahum yasuddoona wa hum mustakbiroon
5. Quand il leur est dit : « Venez ! Le Messager d’Allah va implorer le pardon pour vous », ils détournent la tête, et tu les vois se retirer, dédaigneux, pleins de morgue.

Verset 6 sur 10

سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ أَسۡتَغۡفَرۡتَ لَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ لَن يَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ

Sawaaa'un 'alaihim as taghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lany yaghfiral laahu lahum; innal laaha laa yahdil qawmal faasiqeen
6. Que tu implores pour eux le pardon ou que tu ne l’implores pas, cela est égal. Car Allah ne leur pardonnera pas. Allah ne guide pas les gens pervers.

Verset 7 sur 10

هُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُواْ عَلَىٰ مَنۡ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّواْۗ وَلِلَّهِ خَزَآئِنُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفۡقَهُونَ

Humul lazeena yaqooloona laa tunfiqoo 'alaa man inda Rasoolil laahi hatta yanfaddoo; wa lillaahi khazaaa' inus samaawaati wal ardi wa laakinnal munaafiqeena la yafqahoon
7. Ce sont eux qui disent : « Ne dépensez plus (de vos biens) en faveur de ceux qui sont (toujours) auprès du Messager d’Allah. C’est ainsi seulement qu’ils finiront par se disperser (d’autour de lui.) » C’est à Allah qu’appartiennent les trésors des cieux et de la terre, mais les hypocrites, eux, ne (le) comprennent pas.

Verset 8 sur 10

يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعۡنَآ إِلَى ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ لَيُخۡرِجَنَّ ٱلۡأَعَزُّ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡأَذَلَّۚ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

Yaqooloona la'ir raja'naaa ilal madeenati la yukhrijannal a'azzu minhal azall; wa lillaahil 'izzatu wa li Rasoolihee wa lilmu'mineena wa laakinnal munaafiqeena laa ya'lamoon
8. Ils disent : « Si nous revenons à Médine, le plus puissant en chassera le plus humble. » C’est pourtant à Allah qu’appartient la Puissance, à Son Messager et aux croyants. Mais les hypocrites ne (le) savent pas.

Verset 9 sur 10

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تُلۡهِكُمۡ أَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ وَلَآ أَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَن يَفۡعَلۡ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ

Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo la tulhikum amwaalukum wa laa awlaadukum 'anzikril laah; wa mai-yaf'al zaalika fa-ulaaa'ika humul khaasiroon
9. Ô vous qui avez cru ! Que vos biens et vos enfants ne vous distraient point de l’Invocation[557] d’Allah. Ceux qui le font sont eux les perdants.

Verset 10 sur 10

وَأَنفِقُواْ مِن مَّا رَزَقۡنَٰكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوۡلَآ أَخَّرۡتَنِيٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ قَرِيبٖ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Wa anfiqoo mim maa razaqnaakum min qabli any-ya'tiya ahadakumul mawtu fa yaqoola rabbi law laaa akhkhartaneee ilaaa ajalin qareebin fa assaddaqa wa akum minassaaliheen
10. Dépensez des (biens) que Nous vous avons dispensés, avant que la mort ne vienne (surprendre) l’un d’entre vous, qui dira alors: « Seigneur, si Tu m’accordais un sursis pour un délai proche, je ferais alors la charité et je serais du nombre des vertueux ! »
