The summary/theme of the surah al-munafiqun

The theme of Qur'an 63 is to inform believers that hypocrites are absolute liars. It also exhorts believers to be sincere in their faith and provide for their families.

Lesson learned from surah al-munafiqun

  1. No matter how hard you try to convince yourself or others of how you feel, Allah's knows the reality better than anyone.  
  2. If you jump at every call thinking it’s relevant to you, it is a sign of a guilty conscience.  
  3. The hypocrites would regularly do things that would deeply upset the Muslims, yet they couldn’t do much in retaliation given the circumstances. Allah's revealed this surah and many other Ayahs to console the hearts of the believers.  
  4. Only Allah's has total control over the treasures of the heavens and the earth.  
  5. Do not let your wealth and offspring distract you from the remembrance and obedience of Allah's.  
  6. A person who doesn’t give zak'h will see the punishment before he/she passes away, and will desire to be given respite to make amends; a desire that shall not be allowed to be fulfilled.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ قَالُواْ نَشۡهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ يَشۡهَدُ إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَكَٰذِبُونَ

Izaa jaaa'akal munaafiqoona qaaloo nashhadu innaka la rasoolul laah; wallaahu ya'lamu innaka la rasooluhoo wallaahu yashhadu innal munaafiqeena lakaaziboon
1. Cuando los hipócritas se presentan ante ti (¡oh, Muhammad!), dicen: «Atestiguamos que eres el Mensajero de Al-lah». Al-lah sabe que tú eres Su Mensajero y Al-lah atestigua que los hipócritas son unos mentirosos (porque no creen en lo que dicen).

ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَيۡمَٰنَهُمۡ جُنَّةٗ فَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُمۡ سَآءَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Ittakhazoo aymaanahum junnatan fasaddoo 'an sabeelil laah; innahum saaa'a maa kaanoo ya'maloon
2. Se escudan en sus falsos juramentos y desvían (a los hombres) del camino de Al-lah. ¡Qué malo es lo que hacen!

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ ءَامَنُواْ ثُمَّ كَفَرُواْ فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يَفۡقَهُونَ

Zaalika bi annahum aamanoo summa kafaroo fatubi'a 'alaa quloobihim fahum laa yafqahoon
3. Ello se debe a que creyeron (de palabra) pero después sus corazones negaron la verdad y por eso (Al-lah) los selló, por lo que no pueden comprender (la fe).

۞وَإِذَا رَأَيۡتَهُمۡ تُعۡجِبُكَ أَجۡسَامُهُمۡۖ وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡۖ كَأَنَّهُمۡ خُشُبٞ مُّسَنَّدَةٞۖ يَحۡسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيۡحَةٍ عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ هُمُ ٱلۡعَدُوُّ فَٱحۡذَرۡهُمۡۚ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ أَنَّىٰ يُؤۡفَكُونَ

Wa izaa ra aytahum tu'jibuka ajsaamuhum wa iny yaqooloo tasma' liqawlihim ka'annahum khushubum musannadah; yahsaboona kulla saihatin 'alaihim; humul 'aduwwu fahzarhum; qaatalahumul laahu annaa yu'fakoon
4. Si los ves, te agrada su aspecto; y cuando hablan, escuchas atentamente sus palabras. Son como maderos apoyados (en una pared que en realidad no sostienen, porque solo son pura apariencia). Cada vez que oyen un grito piensan que se dirige contra ellos (debido a su cobardía). Ellos son los verdaderos enemigos; ¡ten cuidado con ellos! ¡Que Al-lah los destruya y los expulse de Su misericordia! ¡Cómo se alejan (de la fe después de haber tenido pruebas de la verdad)!

Versículo 5 de 10

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ تَعَالَوۡاْ يَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ لَوَّوۡاْ رُءُوسَهُمۡ وَرَأَيۡتَهُمۡ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ

Wa izaa qeela lahum ta'aalaw yastaghfir lakum rasoolul laahi lawwaw ru'oo sahum wa ra aytahum yasuddoona wa hum mustakbiroon
5. Y si se les dice: «¡Venid para que el Mensajero de Al-lah pida perdón por vosotros!», mueven la cabeza (desoyendo la llamada) y los ves alejarse altivos.

سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ أَسۡتَغۡفَرۡتَ لَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تَسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَهُمۡ لَن يَغۡفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ

Sawaaa'un 'alaihim as taghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lany yaghfiral laahu lahum; innal laaha laa yahdil qawmal faasiqeen
6. Tanto da si pides perdón por ellos como si no (¡oh, Muhammad!), pues Al-lah no los perdonará. Al-lah no guía a quienes se rebelan (y no Lo obedecen).

هُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُواْ عَلَىٰ مَنۡ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّواْۗ وَلِلَّهِ خَزَآئِنُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفۡقَهُونَ

Humul lazeena yaqooloona laa tunfiqoo 'alaa man inda Rasoolil laahi hatta yanfaddoo; wa lillaahi khazaaa' inus samaawaati wal ardi wa laakinnal munaafiqeena la yafqahoon
7. Ellos son quienes dicen (a sus compañeros de Medina): «No gastéis en favor de quienes están con el Mensajero de Al-lah hasta que lo abandonen». Y a Al-lah pertenecen las provisiones de los cielos y de la tierra; mas los hipócritas no lo comprenden.

Versículo 8 de 10

يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعۡنَآ إِلَى ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ لَيُخۡرِجَنَّ ٱلۡأَعَزُّ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡأَذَلَّۚ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

Yaqooloona la'ir raja'naaa ilal madeenati la yukhrijannal a'azzu minhal azall; wa lillaahil 'izzatu wa li Rasoolihee wa lilmu'mineena wa laakinnal munaafiqeena laa ya'lamoon
8. (Dichos hipócritas) se dicen (entre ellos mientras se hallan en una expedición militar con el Profeta): «Cuando regresemos a Medina, (nosotros) los más honorables, expulsaremos a los más insignificantes (los creyentes emigrantes de La Meca)». Mas a Al-lah pertenecen todo el poder y el honor, así como al Profeta y a los creyentes; pero los hipócritas no lo saben.

Versículo 9 de 10

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تُلۡهِكُمۡ أَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ وَلَآ أَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَن يَفۡعَلۡ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ

Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo la tulhikum amwaalukum wa laa awlaadukum 'anzikril laah; wa mai-yaf'al zaalika fa-ulaaa'ika humul khaasiroon
9. ¡Oh, creyentes!, que vuestros bienes y vuestros hijos no os distraigan de glorificar a Al-lah. Y quienes se olviden de glorificarlo (y de cumplir con lo que Él ha ordenado) serán los perdedores.

Versículo 10 de 10

وَأَنفِقُواْ مِن مَّا رَزَقۡنَٰكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوۡلَآ أَخَّرۡتَنِيٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ قَرِيبٖ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Wa anfiqoo mim maa razaqnaakum min qabli any-ya'tiya ahadakumul mawtu fa yaqoola rabbi law laaa akhkhartaneee ilaaa ajalin qareebin fa assaddaqa wa akum minassaaliheen
10. Y dad en caridad parte de lo que os ha proveído antes de que la muerte le sobrevenga a alguno de vosotros y este diga: «¡Señor!, ¿por qué no me concedes un poco más de tiempo para que pueda dar caridad y estar entre los rectos y virtuosos?».
